The Route
We traveled 223 miles on I-5. The route passed through Grant's Pass, Medford and Ashland in Oregon, crossed into California, and passed by Mount Shasta City and over Lake Shasta on the way to Redding.
Along the Way
The trip revealed dramatic scenes of mountains, forests and broad valleys by having us climb a number of high passes. The climbs were long (up to 7 miles) and steep (up to 6% grade). There were a matching number of "whee" descents. Think ... Canyon Creek Pass, Stage Road Pass, Smith Hill Summit, Sexton Mountain Pass and Siskiyou Summit in Oregon alone.
Canyon Creek Pass was the first we crossed today. |

The Campground
We're staying at Redding RV Park. This stop demonstrates that campground ratings can be unreliable. This campground had a directory rating similar to the one we stayed in last night. Our experience proved otherwise. They aren't even close.
Site #14 |
We shopped for some groceries and other supplies. A scene from the Walmart parking lot reminded us of the fire battles that have been raging out here for months.
