Day 4 - Manistee, MI to Petoskey, MI

We awoke to overcast skies and a forecast of rain. This is the first day that hasn't started with sunshine. It's been pretty hot and humid in the afternoons up to this point. The cooler temperature (mid-70s) will feel good.

Leaving the Casino
We were ready to check-out of the campground when the tire service company called to say the new trailer tires had arrived.

Leaving Site #44

We dropped the car and trailer off at the tire service company and walked to the House of Flavors ... a 1950s-themed diner and ice cream parlor for breakfast. The ambiance and menu reflected pure fun.
There's a lot of fun inside.

"The Super Dooper Pig's Dinner" is their largest sundae selection. It costs $24.99. It includes 12 scoops of ice cream, 3 bananas and 12 topping choices. We passed on it and all other forms of ice cream.

FYI ... House of Flavors is the largest private-label manufacturer of ice cream in Michigan. It opened in 1948 and now produces more than 25 million gallons of ice cream a year.

Today's Trip
Thanks to Joe and his crew at Manistee Tire Servicethe tires were installed and we were on the way to Petoskey by noon. The route was simple (US-31N all the way) and relatively short (140 miles).

The Weather
We had sunshine, overcast and light rain on and off all day.  A light breeze helped provide a pleasant temperature.

The Campground
We're staying at Petoskey KOA RV & Cabin Resort. It's highly rated and deserves the accolades.

Petoskey Tour
Petoskey is a Victorian-style community that oozes class. It feels like the Chautauqua Institution environment. The downtown is quaint and friendly.

The Grand Traverse Pie Company caught our attention as we wandered the downtown area. We stopped for dinner and found what felt like a cross between Panera Bread and Marie Callender's. Dick had a Reuben sandwich and Carol had a cherry chicken salad wrap. We shared a piece of cherry pie a-la-mode.
We had a delightful dinner here,
Tomorrow
We're heading for Whitefish Bay, the town of Paradise and Tahquamenon Falls State Park on the Upper Peninsula.
