Day 8 - Casselton, ND to Bismarck, ND

This Morning
Last night's campground is associated with a Days Inn hotel and Governors Conference Center. They have a nice Country Kitchen Restaurant that offers a discounted breakfast to campers. They also have a huge cinnamon roll on the menu. Carol gave it a try.

The Route
Today's drive was a relatively short 175 miles. The route from Casselton to Bismarck was simple ... get on I-94W and drive to exit 161.

Along the Way
The morning started with low clouds, a stiff breeze and intermittent showers. It stayed that way for the entire trip. The temperature was 70° when we left Casselton and had dropped to 56° by the time we got to Bismarck.

Head and cross-winds were 30-35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. The Airstream tracked well. We were grateful.

Here's what we saw (or didn't see) ...

As you can tell, this trip provided a good time for listening to a book. We finished "The Hit" by David Baldacci.

The Campground
The Bismarck KOA is very nice.

We arrived during a windy, cold, rain shower.  We set-up quickly and turned on the furnace.

Their WiFi is the fastest we've seen on the trip.

Evening Update
We left at 4:30 for dinner at Olive Garden. The sky was overcast and the wind was gusting out of the west. There was no rain when we finished dinner and left for some shopping at Walmart. A torrential downpour hit the area just before we were ready to leave Walmart.

We waited about 10 minutes hoping the wind and rain would subside. No luck. We got drenched while retrieving and loading the car.

We're back at the campground ... warm, dry and grateful not to be in a tent or pop-up trailer. The storm continues to dump lots of rain and jostle us with strong wind gusts.

  1. Glad you took the photo of the cinnamon role with other plates of food so we could really see how big it is. But how did it taste?
